How to open a Bitget account step by step, with identity verification
Opening a Bitget account takes a few minutes, and identity verification is usually done in under an hour. What gets stuck most often isn’t the sign-up but everything around it: a referral code that can’t be added later, a document that can’t be read properly or a country Bitget doesn’t accept. These are the steps, checked on its official website.

What you need before you start
To open a Bitget account you need an email address or a mobile number, a valid ID document, your phone or computer camera for the selfie, to be 18 or over and to live in a country where Bitget operates. With that, sign-up and verification can be done in one go.
- ID document: national ID card, passport, driving licence or residence permit, depending on what Bitget accepts for your country.
- Email or mobile: you choose one to sign up and can link the other later.
- The referral code, if you are using one: it is entered during sign-up. What it is and who gets what is explained in referral code.
- An accepted country: the list of the ones it doesn’t accept is further down, under “Which countries”.
Signing up on the website, step by step
Signing up on the Bitget website takes six steps and asks for no documents yet: you choose email or mobile, enter the referral code if you have one, accept the terms, create the password and confirm with the 6-digit code you receive. Like this:
- Go to bitget.com and click Sign Up.
- Choose email or mobile. The number is entered without the country code, which has its own box. You can also sign up with Google or Telegram.
- If you have a referral code, enter it in Referral code (optional). If you came in through an affiliate’s link, check that it is already filled in.
- Accept the user agreement and the privacy policy.
- Create the password: 8 to 32 characters, with at least one number, one capital letter and one special character. Solve the captcha.
- Enter the 6-digit code sent to your email or by SMS. The account is created.
In the app it’s the same in a different order: Get Started, Sign Up, email or mobile, password, optional referral code, Create Account and, at the end, the 6-digit code.
Enter the referral code when you sign up. Bitget’s help centre offers no way to add one to an account that already exists.
Bitget identity verification (KYC)
Bitget’s level 1 verification asks for a photo of your ID document and a live selfie, in which the app asks you to blink or turn your head. Bitget says most reviews finish in under an hour. Without this level, the account can’t be used to trade:
| Unverified | With level 1 | |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit | No | Yes |
| Trade spot and futures | No | Yes |
| Withdraw and send to another account | No | Yes |
| Buy through P2P or by card | No | Yes |
- In your profile, go to Identity Verification.
- Choose your country and the type of document.
- Take the photos of the document: the whole document, with no glare and all four edges visible.
- Take the live selfie following the on-screen instructions.
- Wait for the result: it arrives by email and shows on the same page.
Only one main account per person can be verified. For higher limits, or during a review, Bitget may also ask for proof of address less than three months old, such as a bank statement or a utility bill.
The first thing after opening it: security
The first thing worth doing after opening the account is enabling two-factor authentication. Bitget offers three methods, SMS, Google Authenticator and Passkey, and advises the last two, because SMS codes can be stolen by duplicating the SIM card. After that, three more settings:
- Anti-phishing code: a word of your own that appears in Bitget’s emails and text messages. If a message doesn’t include it, it isn’t from Bitget.
- Fund code: a second password to confirm withdrawals and security changes.
- Trusted devices: check from time to time where your account has been accessed from.
No Bitget employee will ever ask for your password or your verification codes. If someone does, it is a scam.
Your first deposit and moving to futures
With a verified account you can deposit in three ways: send crypto you already own, buy it by card or bank transfer, or buy it from another person through P2P. To trade futures, you then have to move the balance from your spot account to your USDT-M futures account:
- In Assets, choose Deposit and the coin, for example USDT.
- Choose the network and copy the address. The network must be the same on both sides: if you send via TRC-20, you receive via TRC-20.
- When it arrives, go to Assets → Transfer, choose from Spot to USDT-M Futures, enter the amount and confirm. The transfer is instant.
Before your first trade, it’s worth reading how to start with futures. Bitget also has a futures demo account with simulated funds, open to every account: it’s in the Futures menu, under Demo Trading.
Which countries Bitget can be used from
Bitget does not accept residents of the countries excluded by its terms of use, read for this guide on 20 October 2026: among them the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Austria, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Russia and Thailand. In some other countries it only offers part of its services.
- Excluded by its terms: Afghanistan, Austria, Belarus, Canada, the Central African Republic, Cuba, the DR Congo, France, Germany, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Hong Kong, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, North Korea, the occupied areas of Ukraine, Russia, Singapore, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Thailand, the United States and its territories, and Yemen.
- In the European Economic Area: Bitget holds no MiCA licence. It has applied in Austria and says it will serve the EU once the licence is granted. Since 1 July 2026, an exchange without that licence cannot legally serve residents of the EEA, even if its terms don’t exclude their country.
- In the United Kingdom: Bitget is not authorised or registered by the FCA. Since 8 October 2023, only firms that are can communicate or approve cryptoasset promotions to UK consumers.
If you’re not sure whether your country is on the list, check its terms before verifying your identity: an account opened from an excluded country can be closed. You can check any exchange on the ESMA register.
Bitget on video
If you’d rather see the platform before opening an account, CryptoBruj has a video that walks through Bitget step by step: sign-up, futures and copy trading. It’s in Spanish and dates from 2022, so some buttons have moved, but the walkthrough is still the same.
It’s on its YouTube channel: how to use Bitget step by step (in Spanish). To compare Bitget with the other exchanges, with their licences, reserves and track record, see the exchange comparison.
Frequently asked questions
Can you use Bitget without verifying your identity?
Not for anything that matters: without level 1 verification, Bitget doesn’t let you deposit, trade, withdraw or use P2P. You can create the account, but not use it.
How long does Bitget verification take?
According to Bitget, most reviews finish in under an hour and few take more than a few hours. If the document can’t be read properly, it is rejected and you have to do it again.
What documents does Bitget accept for KYC?
A national ID card, passport, driving licence or residence permit, depending on the country. It also asks for a live selfie and, sometimes, proof of address less than three months old.
Can you add a Bitget referral code after signing up?
Bitget’s help centre offers no way to do it. The code is entered in the sign-up form, in the “Referral code (optional)” box.
Is Bitget available in the UK, the USA or Canada?
Bitget’s terms exclude the United States and Canada. In the United Kingdom it is not authorised or registered by the FCA, and since 8 October 2023 only firms that are can promote cryptoassets to UK consumers.
