DCA and average price calculator

Enter your purchases, what you invested and at what price, and I will tell you your real average price: what you invested divided by the coins you hold. It is the calculation from the guide DCA in crypto: what it is and how to calculate your average buy price.

Your purchases

Purchases
Up to six purchases. Leave the rows you don’t use empty.
Optional: your exchange’s fee for spot purchases. At 0, I leave it out.

Your average price48,979.59

Total invested400 USDT

Coins you hold0.008167

Simple average of your prices50,000

On average you paid 48,979.59 per coin, 2.04% less than the simple average of your prices (50,000): your cheaper purchases got you more coins.

Based on the purchases you enter, without counting sales or transfers. Your exchange may calculate the average price differently: compare it with its figure.

An example with four purchases

Four purchases of 100 USDT at different prices, the ones from the guide. This is what the calculator gives you with them entered:

PurchasePriceYou investCoins
Purchase 150,000100 USDT0.002
Purchase 240,000100 USDT0.0025
Purchase 360,000100 USDT0.001667
Purchase 450,000100 USDT0.002
Total400 USDT0.008167

Average price = 400 ÷ 0.008167 = about 48,980 USDT. The simple average of the four prices is 50,000, but your real price is lower, because the purchase at 40,000 got you more coins.

The formula I use

  1. Coins from each purchase = what you invest × (1 − fee) ÷ price. With 100 USDT at 40,000 and no fee: 0.0025.
  2. Average price = total invested ÷ total coins. The fee counts as invested: it is money that left your account.
  3. Simple average = the sum of the prices ÷ the number of purchases. I show it alongside so you can see the difference; it is not your average price.

If you put the same amount into every purchase and leave the fee out, the average price comes out equal to or below the simple average. If you put in more when the price is high, it can come out above it.

What DCA doesn’t do

  • It doesn’t pick the coin for you. Buying something every month that falls for years leaves you at a loss, with an average price that keeps going down.
  • It doesn’t protect you from a fall. It lowers your average price, but while the price stays below it, you are still losing.
  • It isn’t free. Each purchase pays its fee, and with very small purchases that shows more.

There is a slower explanation in DCA in crypto: what it is and how to calculate your average buy price.

If your exchange shows a different average price

Many exchanges calculate the average price of what you hold right now, and reset it or blend it when you sell part, transfer coins or receive coins from somewhere else. The calculator only counts the purchases you enter.

For your tax return, each country has its own calculation method, which may not match either of the two.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate the average buy price?

Divide everything you have invested by all the coins you hold. With four purchases of 100 USDT and 0.008167 coins, the average price is 400 ÷ 0.008167, about 48,980 USDT.

Why isn’t my average price the average of my prices?

Because with the same amount you buy more coins when the price is low, and those purchases weigh more. The simple average treats every purchase the same, whatever you put into it.

What is DCA?

Buying the same amount at regular intervals, for example every week or every month, without looking at the price. It spreads out when you buy and avoids putting everything in on a bad day.

Does it include fees?

If you enter them, yes: the fee on each purchase is deducted from the coins you receive, and the average price goes up a little. At 0, I leave it out.

Can I enter more than six purchases?

Six fit here. If you have more, group the ones you made at a similar price into one row: the total you invested and the average price of those purchases, which you can work out right here.

Does DCA guarantee a profit?

No. It lowers the risk of buying everything at a bad moment, but if the coin falls and doesn’t recover, you lose all the same. What you buy is your decision.

How can we help?

Does it cost anything?

No. The site, checking whether you're a referral and the Trading Hub cost you nothing. CryptoBruj doesn't sell anything.

What does being a referral mean?

That you opened your exchange account with the CryptoBruj link or code. You can check it in a moment in Am I a referral? with your exchange and your UID.

Where do I find my UID?

In your exchange profile, next to your name or your email, with a button to copy it. Bitget: on the website, hover over your profile in the top right; in the app, tap your profile in the top left, then “Profile”. Bitunix: on the website, click your profile in the top right. BingX: on the website, hover over your profile in the top right; in the app, tap your profile in the top left. OKX: on the website, hover over your profile in the top right; in the app, open the menu, then “Profile and settings”.

How do I join the Trading Hub?

Fill in the Trading Hub form with your exchange, your UID, your email and your Telegram username. Your Telegram username is the one that starts with @: you’ll find it in Telegram’s Settings and, if you don’t have one, you can create it there. If the exchange confirms that you are a referral, we give you a personal link to the Telegram bot, which lets you into the group. Open it from the same Telegram account you entered in the form.

My account doesn't show up as a referral. What do I do?

Check that the UID and the exchange are correct; if you've just created the account, try again in a while. If it still doesn't show up, your account wasn't opened with CryptoBruj's link or code, and the code can't be added to an account that already exists. You have two options: open an account on another of the exchanges from My exchanges and join the Trading Hub with it (it's the quickest, and you can keep using the one you have), or make your account a referral with your exchange's steps: write to us below with your exchange and your UID and we'll tell you how.

Can I be removed from the Trading Hub?

To stay in, your account just needs to remain a referral: the bot checks it every day. If it stops being one, the bot lets you know privately before removing you from the group.

Does CryptoBruj give investment advice?

No. What CryptoBruj publishes is general and educational information, the same for everyone: it isn't advice or a personalised recommendation. The details are in the terms.
